Kevin RoundWhile other cities across India received initial interest as data center hubs, whether for ties to large headquarters (Mumbai), the IT industry (Bengaluru), or the national government (Delhi and the key Noida area), Chennai embodies parts of all these cities, with a strong and multifaceted array of industries calling the area home. Many large software companies develop their products in Chennai, along with a host of IT consulting and outsourcing firms using the city as a base for a multinational clientele. This software underpins a significant manufacturing industry, including everything from vehicles and the vehicle supply chain to chemicals, textiles, and much more, with several electronics firms recently taking advantage of local special economic zones for production. Each requires sophisticated access to multiple cloud services to ensure business uptime and efficiency.

We’re proud to team up with our JV Partner, AdaniConneX for our data center deployments across India. Together, we leverage our expertise to accelerate India’s digital growth and deliver top-notch solutions.

Chennai has become one of the leading hubs for undersea connectivity, with seven cables already active and three more under construction, all of which link the metropolis to nineteen other countries around the world, along with a host of other locations across both mainland India and surrounding territories. Of note are connections to major data center hubs in Europe (France, Italy) and the thriving ecosystem developing across Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand). Eight cables link directly to Singapore, allowing fantastic speed and redundancy to one of the globe’s connectivity entrepots.

Chennai can thus serve as a location for deployments in India and workloads with a pan-Asia remit. The local population alone is sizable, with twelve million people in the greater metro area serving as a gateway to a state of 72 million in the most populous country in the world, with only half of all Indians having consistent internet access and offering a massive growth opportunity. Chennai thus provides an excellent location for workloads aimed at content delivery, e-commerce, and much more, with continued growth expected throughout the next decade and beyond.
