Seaborn Networks Selects EdgeConneX® Buenos Aires Edge Data Center® for its Point of Presence in Argentina

Interconnection With Seaborn’s New ARBR Submarine Cable Linking Argentina and Brazil Will Provide Cross Connect Opportunities for EdgeConneX Customers

Herndon, VA and Boston – May 7, 2018 – EdgeConneX®, specializing in global data center solutions at the edge of the network, today announces that Seaborn Networks (“Seaborn”), a leading developer-owner-operator of submarine fiber optic cable systems, has selected its Buenos Aires Edge Data Center® (EDC) as the Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Argentina for Seaborn’s ARBR submarine cable.  The Buenos Aires EDC is the first and only carrier neutral, Tier III data center in the Argentina market and the company’s inaugural facility in South America.

With a projected Ready-for-Service (RFS) date in H1 2019, Seaborn Network’s ARBR subsea cable will connect Buenos Aires, Argentina with São Paulo, Brazil.  Through an interconnection to Seaborn’s Seabras-1 subsea network connecting Brazil to the U.S., the ARBR submarine cable also enables the newest and most direct route between Argentina and the U.S.  The PoP at the EdgeConneX Buenos Aires EDC will provide cross-connect opportunities for all EdgeConneX customers.

The Buenos Aires EDC provides underserved regions in South America with high-quality, low-latency content delivery, cloud access and international interconnectivity in an N+1 facility.  A multi-tenant facility, the Buenos Aires EDC offers customers a robust connectivity and peering platform comprised of extensive fiber, density and peering options along with a highly-interconnected ecosystem of industry partners.

“We are pleased to establish a Point of Presence in the EdgeConneX Buenos Aires Edge Data Center that will serve our ARBR submarine cable in Argentina,” comments Larry Schwartz, Chairman and CEO of Seaborn Networks.  “EdgeConneX has long recognized the need for Edge services across the globe as content delivery and cloud applications require localization and availability. The Buenos Aires Edge Data Center, which sits at the hub to hundreds of national and multinational companies at Parque Industrial Pilar, is the ideal facility at which to interconnect our new subsea cable system.”

Seaborn’s ARBR subsea network will be Argentina’s first and only transoceanic cable that is not controlled by a large incumbent telecom company.  The ARBR submarine cable is being developed as a 4-fiber pair, 48Tbps, direct PoP-to-PoP subsea cable system. Construction is scheduled to commence this year.

“Through the introduction of cutting-edge technology, the Buenos Aires EDC will enhance economic growth throughout the region, and combined with connectivity to Seaborn’s ARBR subsea cable, will make Argentina a more attractive location for data investment by enterprises across a wide range of industries both domestically and globally,” says Randy Brouckman, chief executive officer, EdgeConneX.  “As we continue to expand the edge globally in partnership with subsea cable developers and owner-operators such as Seaborn Networks, EdgeConneX enhances the delivery of cloud, content and network services not only in Buenos Aires but for international organizations seeking to expand business opportunities and connectivity options between North and South America.”
